About Us

We have had Basset Hounds in our lives for over 40 years.  When we lost our first Basset we felt such a void we couldn't fill it fast enough.  In the search for another companion, we purchased a 'show dog'!  He didn't turn out to be competitive, but while attempting to show him we found out that we enjoyed the showing and people in the show community.  At this point we knew we needed to become better educated on this breed so a more informed purchase could be made.  We purchased a top quality female and thus established our kennel prefix of Castlehill's, with everything starting in the year of 1978.

Over these 40 years, we have achieved All Breed Best In Shows and many Specialty Best In Shows on our hounds.  With limited breeding, we have bred over 50 Champions.  Our dogs have been ranked #1 of all Hounds numerous times, and have been in the Top Ten through the years.  We love our showing, but more important are the close relationships we have developed through the associations of those who provide the loving companion homes for our dogs.

Both of us are licensed AKC Judges and have had the honor to judge the Basset Hound Club Of America National Specialty Show.  Jim has been a past President and Board Member of BHCA and Sharon a contributing artist for the 'Illustrated Standard of the Basset Hound'.  Both of us continue to be active participants in the Basset Hound Club of America activities.

In addition to the Basset Hounds, we have enjoyed owning and showing English Setters and Beagles.  There are no English Setters in our life at this time, but we enjoy the company of three Beagles. We are currently showing Ch Skyline Castlehill's Big Love, bred by Kathy Forbes and Judy Forbes.  She is the energizer bunny for all the others.  Ch Page Mill Branch Manager is now 13 and her daughter 11, keeps her company at the dinner table.  You can see more photos on our 'Showing' page.
Feel free to contact us if you wish information on these breeds or any others.

Having moved from California to Washington in 2007, we have joined the Gig Harbor Kennel Club where Jim serves as their Delegate to the AKC.  We are enjoying meeting the dog fanciers in the beautiful Northwest.
